Celebrity Cruise Lines invites Foodies on Board for their a Taste of Film

Ben_Hider_BH1_7625 1What foodie doesn’t love a movie with a little food porn in it? But instead of munching on greasy popcorn and juju beans why not dine on gourmet dishes inspired by the culture and cuisine of the film? Great idea right? Well, Celebrity Cruises is making all of our foodie dreams come true with it’s new, “Taste of Film.” This cool new experience will be premiering this spring on Celebrity’s Rooftop Terraces.  Expect to see a chic, modern terrace with a movie theater sized screen playing all your favorite food inspired movies while a Chef creates the perfect meal to make your taste buds come alive.

Ben_Hider_BH1_7471Celebrity’s first on board film selection is “The Hundred-Foot Journey,” which tells the story of a feud between two adjacent restaurants in a French town: one operated by a recently relocated Indian family and the other a Michelin-starred French restaurant.

Last week I got a chance to check out Celebrity’s “Taste of Film” and  I was overwhelmed by the amazing dishes Chef Cornelius Gallagher, Associate Vice President, Food and BeveBen_Hider_BH1_7791rage Operations, Celebrity Cruises created.  He explained how a “Taste of Film,” works. “We launched with ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey because it emphasizes – through both story and visuals – the power of food to bring people together and to evoke memories.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:

When the movie starts, guests enjoy Indian-inspired dishes such as crispy shrimp with tamarind or beef filet Bombay with mango pickle. Then, when the setting transitions to France, guests will savor items such as truffled mushroom risotto, sea scallops with glazed leeks and port wine jus, or bites of Valrhona chocolate cake with sweet vanilla chantilly. Through sight, sound, feel and taste, we are bringing the film to life, as only Celebrity Cruises can do – and this is only our first film. There will be many more to come.”

This cruise seems more geared towards families with older children and/or just adults. I could see my son throwing a tantrum as soon he saw a curried chicken salad. So get a sitter and get cruising!

Kim Anwar owner/travel consultant of Magic Family Getaways explained to me how when her clients are looking for a relaxing, modern and sophisticated cruise  she always suggests Celebrity Cruises. “I’m seeing a new trend where cruisers want to have a unique kind of food experience and I’m excited to offer my clients this innovative and creative option.”
