My Top Five Reasons To Visit Mount Airy Casino & Resort Now

I’m always looking for a quick weekend getaway for my husband and myself that’s just a short drive from home. So, I was super excited when I was invited to check out the newly remodeled Mount Airy Casino Resort which is just under a 90 minute drive from Jersey/New York City.  We hadn’t been on a trip without our two children for over four years but we figured it would be a great getaway just in time to celebrate my 30/40-ISH birthday.  As most moms know it’s not easy to plan a trip away without the kids but we figured we could make it work, after all it would only be for two nights.  So I  booked my kids a weekend of sleep overs and we loaded up the car and headed to the Poconos.

When I told my friends my birthday plan was a getaway to the legendary Mount Airy Casino Resort formerly known as the Mount Airy Lodge they mostly giggled and said, “OMG! With the giant champagne glass jacuzzi and the heart shaped hot tubs?” For those of you who didn’t grow up in the tri state New York area; Mount Airy Lodge as well as the Poconos in general was widely known as a cheesy honeymoon hot spot in Pennsylvania. The resort grew in popularity mostly due to their catchy 80’s theme song and commercials. Click here to cheese out 80’s style and hear the old theme siong, “All you have to bring is your love of everything – beautiful Mount Airy Lodge.”

The heart shaped hot tubs and theme songs are  a thing of the past as Mount Airy Casino and Resort recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation and boy has it paid off – The resort is absolutely beautiful. When you pull up to the resort you are greeted by a valet who offers to park your car as complements of  the hotel.  The lobby is beautiful with a trickling fountain lit up with blue lights and an art installation of fire in the entrance making me wonder if perhaps this place has been gently feng shui’d?

The casino is just a short flight of stairs up from the lobby and like all gaming establishments there is a slight smell of cigarette smoke but luckily it doesn’t carry throughout the hotel AT ALL – promise me if it did I wouldn’t have been able to stay. They did a nice job of ventilating the AAA 4 Diamond Casino.

ROOMS

Our room was on the top floor with a beautiful view of the 18 hole golf course, small lake  and rolling hills of grass. The beds were super plush, the decor was modern and the rooms quite large. Coming from my house where I can never get alone time not even in the bathroom I was happy to see that these bathrooms are huge!  There was a separate room for the toilet, sinks and shower. Standard rooms are available as well as suites.

Here are My Top 5 Reasons You Should Stay at Mount Airy Casino & Resort Now

    1. The Casino: Play The Slots

  2. For some people the casino is the main attraction at any resort. I am actually not a big gambler but my husband on the other hand loves to play cards and said this casino is a good one. It should be since it’s a AAA Four Diamond- rated Casino. There are over 1800 slot machines, over 70 tables and betting minimums from low to high. They offer  Blackjack, Craps, Roulette and Baccarat tables and a special floor just for poker.

2. The Restaurants: Eat The MOST Delicious Food

Relax foodies you won’t starve here because there are lots of delicious options. From smaller fares including Starbucks, Red Mango Yogurt cafe, Nostalgia Candy Story to the bigger venues like the Get Wet pool bar, Chef’s Table at the Buffet, The Buffet and our personal favorites… Lucky 8’s sushi and noodle bar, Guy Fieri’s Mt. Pocono Kitchen and Bistecca by Il Mulino.

Guy Fieri’s Mt. Pocono Kitchen

Guy Fieri’s got some serious skin in the restaurant game here by offering his Mount Pocono Kitchen open 24/7. The menu has all that you could ask for at anytime of the day or night. From mile high nachos, greasy fries and delicious desserts. This is American comfort food  at its best in Fieri’s “Diners Drive ins and Dives” style. Click here to see the AMAZING way they serve their Trash Can Nachos.

Bistecca by Il Mulino

Bistecca by Il Mulino is the crown jewel in the resort’s dining options. You must have a reservation to dine and although the price isn’t cheap it’s worth every penny. This modern steakhouse serves home made pastas, local seafood, steaks and farm fresh vegetables. My husband ordered the steak and said it was by far the BEST he’s ever eaten and coming from New York City/Jersey area that says a lot.

3. The Entertainment: Watch A Show or Dance All Night

The resort offers entertainment in their Gypsie’s Nightclub and Bar. We were so excited when we found out that the 70’s super band, Grand Funk Railroad would be performing. Remember their hit song? “We are an American Band” The venue is intimate and a perfect size with a great view from any point of the room. Some upcoming acts to  see are LoverBoy, Commodores, Comedian Craig Robinson and Eddie Money.

4. The Spa and Indoor/ Outdoor Pool :

The 16,000 square foot spa, salon and exercise facility was a great place to run off all those extra calories. It’s situated next to the pool area, named, Get Wet.  It was nice to have  a chance to relax, sip some herbal tea and enjoy an amazing massage in the full service spa.

5.

The GOLFING:

Because of the March weather we weren’t able to take advantage of the golf course inspired by Sports Illustrated’s “Best 18 Holes in America.”  It’s something my husband can look forward to enjoying while I enjoy my next spa treatment and facial.

My husband John and myself have been married sixteen years and we had so much fun exploring the property.  It was nice to

sleep in late, enjoy the spa, go down at 2am to pig out on some apple pie at Guy Fieri’s. We danced, we relaxed, we even saw a concert! On the way home on Sunday we even stopped down the street to get some Michael Kors goodies for my birthday at The Crossing Premium Outlets.

We will definitely be coming back but leaving our kids again at home since strict gaming laws makes this resort a less than ideal vacation for kids under 21. Gaming laws don’t allow children outside of the guest rooms past 10pm and they can’t walk the casino floor which you need to do in order to go to the restaurants.

Mount Airy Casino and Resort is a great addition to the growing Pocono’s area. For more information and to check out availability visit their website here.
